Composting at primary schools
Composting is perfect to discuss in gardening and forest clubs in school.
Garden Organic has created an online composting lesson for kids, which includes an animated video. We think it works best with Years 5 to 7 (ages 9 to 12), but anyone else is welcome to join in too! The video is 20 minutes but you could split it into sections if this helps.
And why not get the children to try out a composting game?
A game to test your knowledge of what you can and can't compost and some extra tips too. Move the pictures left and right using the arrow keys as they fall from the top of the screen to either YES, CAUTION or NO. You'll get 10 points for every correct answer. Good luck! If this game's a bit too easy, check out our full version with lots more items to sort!
View a short version of the game (for Key Stages 2 to 4) or the full version if you are composting experts!
Garden organic have also created loads of resources for schools and a series of growing cards to help you grow your own fruit and veg.
