Recycling community equipment (including walking aids)

Walking aids can be safely refurbished and reused. This includes:

  • walking sticks
  • frames
  • rollators
  • crutches

Returning community equipment to be reused

Once you or a family member have finished with the item you can contact the team that supplied the item to find out how to return it.

All used walking aids should be returned to an official drop-off points. In Buckinghamshire, our drop off points are:

You can also drop off items at any our household recycling centres.

They will be inspected to ensure they are safe for reuse. They will then be cleaned and passed onto a new user.

All walking aids that are unsafe for reuse will be recycled. Damaged and broken items will be accepted for recycling.

Recycling these items improves access for patients, reduces carbon emissions and saves money.

Over the next 3 years, the NHS could reduce its carbon emissions by 7,400 tonnes which is equivalent to 281,397 car trips from London to Bristol!
